Beach Huts

Artist: Iain Hodgkinson
Medium: Limited edition linocut print
Size: 40 x 30 cm
Style: Contemporary
Title: Beach Huts
Item number: IH006

Description
A limited edition hand printed lino cut print depicting a view of the beach huts nestling under the cliff at Sheringham in North Norfolk. The line of huts gently curves following the natural landscape, behind are the cliffs, in front is the promenade and the shingle beach, all under a blazing summer sky. The huts and promenade are in white against the dark blue of the cliffs, the shingle beach is shown in pale blue and the sky in a vivid orange.
Iain has printed the image from a single lino 'plate' using a dark blue ink onto a background of a white paper with textured orange paper for the sky and pale blue paper for the beach. This technique of printing onto a background of multi layered and coloured papers is called 'Chine Colle'. It allows for a complex background to be created giving a physical depth and texture to the print.
This limited edition print is presented in a pale cream mount ready for framing. The print image measures 23 x 16 cm, the overall size including the mount is 40 x 30 cm.
Prints are limited to an edition of 10.
This print is priced £70.00 plus £10.00 UK postage and packing.

About the artist

Iain is originally from Lancashire where he studied and graduated in Fine Art printmaking, he now lives and works in Northamptonshire.

Iain's work consists of textural, aesthetic forms which are both abstract and representational. He loves working from actual landscapes, creating a response to them through line, mark making and ultimately prinymaking.

He uses a variety of techniques including collagraphs, etching, lino and woodcuts onto prepared mixed backgrounds. This relationship between the printed and the painted results in a marriage of texture, form and depth which Iain exploits to the full.

Each print that Iain produces is a one-off, no two are ever exactly alike. The processes he uses mean that every print from the limited edition is unique, many of the editions are very small due to the nature of his techniques.

Description
A limited edition hand printed collagraph depicting the bright setting sun, lighting up the beach and sea as it dips behind the distant hills in beautiful Spain.
Iain has printed the image from a single collage 'plate' using black ink onto a white textured paper. This technique of printing from a collage allows for a variety of different textures to be introduced, it allows for a complex background to be created giving a physical depth and texture to the print. Making a collage gives this technique its name, 'Collagraph'. Add to this the addition of areas of coloured textured papers (Chine Colle), and a bright yellow sun and the reflection in the sea brings this print to life. The foreground is given balance by adding a palm using textured grey paper.
This limited edition print is presented in a pale cream mount ready for framing. The print image measures 26 x 20 cm, the overall size including the mount is 50 x 40 cm.
Prints are limited to an edition of 6.
This print is priced £200.00 plus £10.00 UK postage and packing.
